Department of Citizenship Education, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta Holds Welcome Ceremony with Philippines Normal University

Yogyakarta - The Department of Civic Education at Yogyakarta State University held a Welcome Ceremony in the context of international cooperation between the Department of Civic Education at UNY and PNU together with a delegation from the Philippines on Wednesday, 28 January 2026. This event took place in the Ki Hajar Dewantara Room at FISIP UNY. The event was attended by two lecturers and seven students from the Philippines as part of an academic collaboration and cultural exchange programme. This collaboration began on 28 January 2026 and will continue until 24 February 2025. The ceremony was opened by MC Jen Salafian, M.A., followed by the singing of the Philippine national anthem and the Indonesian national anthem as a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The first speech was delivered by the Vice Dean of UNY, Dr. Awanis Akalili, who expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Philippine delegation and his hope that this collaboration would strengthen academic and cultural relations between the two institutions. Next, speeches from the Philippine side were delivered by Dr. Celia M. Ilanan and Dr. Ma. Arsenia C. Gomez, who emphasised the importance of international collaboration in improving the quality of education and cross-cultural understanding. Also present was the Vice Rector of UNY, Wulandari, S.Pd., M.A., Ph.D., who also gave a speech. She emphasised that this programme is in line with UNY's commitment to supporting the global agenda through the internationalisation of education, strengthening international networks, and increasing cross-cultural awareness among the academic community.
The event then continued with a session introducing the learning objectives and committee cooperation, as well as a briefing on the programme to be undertaken by the participants. In addition, participants also received training on cross-cultural awareness to support smooth academic and social interactions during the programme. The Welcome Ceremony concluded with a group photo session as a symbol of the commencement of collaboration between UNY and PNU, which is expected to make a tangible contribution to supporting quality education and sustainable global partnerships.
